2013 Ronchi di Cialla Pignolo
'The Bordeaux of Friuli'. Pignolo yields some of Friuli's most elegant and refined red wines. Ronchi di Cialla's 2013 edition offers a rich bouquet of ripe black berries and rich soil tones. The palate is sublime, with focused acidity carrying a melange of dusty fruit through elegantly cantilevered tannins to an herb and smoke tinted finish.
From: Colli Orientali del Friuli DOC
Grapes: 100% pignolo
Maker: Ronchi di Cialla
Tasting Notes:
Deep ruby red with purple hues. Intense, vinous and fruity on the nose, with the memory of cherry, raspberry, blueberry and blackberry which is enriched by a finely spiced and vanilla background. Full-bodied and round in the mouth, with a well-balanced tannic texture and characterized by excellent persistence.
Pairing: To be paired with red meats or game, it is excellent to accompany roast beef with potatoes and rosemary.
Extra notes:
After three weeks of fermentation on the skins, a period of rest in French oak barrels follows, where Ronchi di Cialla's Colli Orientali del Friuli Pignolo DOC remains for about two years. Refines in the bottle for a further six months, proving to be caressing and rich in fruit, but at the same time warm and finely spiced. It comes from an ancient native Friulian vine, known since the Middle Ages and which, in recent times, has even risked extinction: luckily we can still taste the wines it is able to give us.
